1996 Salmonella enteritidis at the Denver Zoological Gardens, Komodo Dragon Contact
A confirmed outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis was linked to visitation of a temporary Komodo dragon exhibit at the Denver Zoological Gardens and touching the protective barrier around the exhibit. Even two weeks after the exhibit closed, investigators were able to isolate the same strain of Salmonella enteritidis from the barrier rail.
