1999 Outbreak of E. Coli O157:H7 and Campylobacter Infections at a County Fair, New York

In 1999 an outbreak of E. Coli O157:H7 and Campylobacter jejuni occurred among visitors of the Washington County, New York fair. One source of water at the fairgrounds was not chlorinated which led to an outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 and Campylobacter jejuni. Stool cultures yielded E. coli O157:H7 from 116 persons; thirteen of these persons were co-infected with Campylobacter jejuni. Stool cultures from an additional 32 persons yielded only Campylobacter jejuni.
