2009 Outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 at a Welsh Dance Camp

Persons who attended a Welsh Dance Camp between July 29 and August 9, 2009, developed symptoms consistent with E.coli O157:H7. Two cases were confirmed as E. coli O157:H7; the strains matched each other. Pembrokeshire County Council's Public Protection Department and the National Public Health Service for Wales investigated. As of August 23, the source for the illnesses was not given. There were approximately 600 people at the event. One third of the attendees were children. Participants came from all over Europe. The event is held annually at an organic farm in Cresselly Quay. No previous illness outbreaks had been associated with the camp.
