2013 Outbreak of Salmonella Heidelberg and Staphylococcus aureus, Colorado

In 2013 Tri-County Health Department and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment investigated an outbreak of Salmonella Heidelberg and Staphylococcus aureus that occurred among individuals who became ill after eating home cooked gumbo. Seven of 8 family members and friends who ate the gumbo became ill. One person died.
