2013 Outbreak of Salmonella typhimurium, Holiday Inn Bordeaux, Fayetteville, North Carolina

In mid-May 2013 the Cumberland County Department of Public Health announced an outbreak of Salmonella among people who consumed food or beverages at the Holiday Inn Bordeaux. The Holiday Inn Bordeaux served food from their banquet kitchen at two restaurants - the All American Sports Bar and Grill and the Cafe Bordeaux. Illness onsets appear to have occurred on or after May 1. A total of 100 cases were identified during the investigation. A retrospective cohort study was performed using interviews solicited from hotel staff in order to identify common exposures. While study results indicated that eating or drinking at the hotel's All American Grill was significantly associated with illness, a specific food item was not implicated.
