2017 June Outbreak of Vibrio Parahaemolyticus, Salted Sea, Seattle, Washington

In June 2017 Public Health Seattle King County investigated an outbreak of Vibrio parahaemolyticus among patrons of the Salted Sea, a restaurant located in Seattle. Two people from one dinner party became ill after eating raw oysters at the restaurant on June 9. Another person from a separate party became ill after eating raw oysters at the restaurant on June 17. One person was laboratory confirmed with Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Two others experienced symptoms consistent with a vibrio infection. An on-site investigation was conducted at Salted Sea by environmental health inspectors. No factors were identified that contributed to the spread of Vibrio. The oysters served at each meal were harvested from multiple growing areas in Washington State. Investigators were unable to identify the specific growing area. No closures or recall were issued.
