2017 Outbreak o f Salmonella Schwarzengrund Linked to Best BBQ, Chicago, Illinois

In 2017 the Chicago Department of Public Health investigated an outbreak of Salmonella Schwarzengrund among dining patrons of Best BBQ located at 1648 West 115th Street in Chicago. The first date of exposure was July 10, 2017. The last date of exposure was September 3, 2017. Thirty cases were reported. Eleven people were hospitalized. There was one death. Four food handlers tested positive for Salmonella Schwarzengrund. Cooked porked rib tips tested positive for the outbreak strain.
