2017 Outbreak of Salmonella Braenderup Associated with Miller's Guild, Seattle, Washington

In November 2017 Public Health Seattle King County (PHSKC) announced an investigation of an outbreak of Salmonella Braenderup among customers of Miller's Guild restaurant. Seven persons from 4 separate meal parties became ill after eating at the restaurant on different dates between 8/15/17-11/3/17. One of the ill persons was hospitalized. Laboratory testing indicated that four of the ill persons were infected with an indistinguishable strain of Salmonella Braenderup. The other three cases were not tested. The suspected contaminated food item was beef ribs. No beef reminaed for testing. Twenty seven environmental samples were negative for Salmonella. As part of the investigation, PHSKC staff visited and closed the restaurant on 11/21/2017. During the field inspection, potential risk factors such as practices that contribute to the risk of cross contamination, were identified and discussed with the owner.
