2017 Outbreak of Salmonella I 4, [5], 12:i- at La California Restraurant, Aurora, Colorado

In November 2017 the Tri-County Health Department in Colorado investigated an outbreak of Salmonella I 4,[5],12:1- among people who consumed food prepared at La California Restaurant located in Aurora, Colorado. Exposure dates ranged from November 4-26. The majority of cases ate at the restaurant between November 10 and November 13. Thirteen of 33 cases were laboratory confirmed with Salmonella. Three people were hospitalized and one person died. Illnesses involved both restaurant patrons and employees. The implicated meal was the "taco combo" meal. During an inspection conducted on November 22, sanitarians observed issues with cross contamination, employee handwashing, hot holding and cold holding food violations.
