2018 Outbreak of Norovirus, El Toro Restaurants, Pierce County, Washington
As least 542 people were sickened with norovirus linked to food prepared at two El Toro Mexican restuarants located in Pierce County, Washington. Most of the cases (n=520) dined at the Tacoma location at 5716 N. 26th Street. The other 22 cases dined at the University Place location at 3820 Bridgeport Way West. The first reports of illness came from three different groups who ate at the Tacoma location between December 31, 2017 and January 2, 2018. Meal dates associated illness extended to January 8 at the Tacoma location and January 6 at the University Place location. Both facilities were closed for thorough cleaning and sanitizing.
