2019 Outbreak of Shiga Toxin E. coli Among Visitors to the San Diego County Fair, California
In June 2019 seven cases of confirmed or probable pediatric cases of Shiga toxin E. coli (STEC) occurred among visitors to the San Diego County Fair. A two year old child died. The ages of the children ranged from 2 to 13 years of age. They visited the fair between June 8 to June 22. Two cases were hospitalized. All children visited the animal areas or the petting zoo at the fair, or had other animal contact at the fair.
