Barto's Idle Hour Restaurant Vegetable 2009
People who had eaten a meal, between August 25 and August 29, at this Frontenac, Kansas, restaurant became ill with Salmonella Newport. The outbreak had been identified through routine public health surveillance. Sandwiches that were served with tossed salad were associated with illness. When common ingredients were analyzed, raw onion and lettuce were found to be significantly associated with illness. Food preparation procedures, cross contamination, or contaminated produce were all potential causes of this outbreak.
