Des Moines Wedding Pork Sausage 1990
People who attended a wedding on July 14, and ate raw pork sausage, developed trichinellosis. Most of the people who attended the wedding originated from Southeast Asia where it is customary to eat raw pork; the hazards of eating raw or undercooked pork were not appreciated. The meat packing company that supplied the pork slaughtered thousands of pigs a day from hundreds of farms. It was not possible to trace the pork back to the source farm.
