Lapeer County Michigan 2005

Lapeer County, Michigan, saw in increase in Salmonella Enteritidis cases in July. Twenty people became infected with the bacteria, and five were hospitalized due to the disease. An investigation by the health department found no common exposures to restaurants or specific foods. The outbreak was thought to be due to ill food workers contaminating multiple food items, but the exact location of the contamination was never determined.
