Michigan Nursing Home 1994
A prolonged outbreak of Salmonella Oranienberg occurred at a Michigan nursing home. Staff and residents were infected. Cases begain in June, 1994, and continued sporadically through October, 1995. Residents who had dementia were at higher risk of infection. A food vehicle was never identified, however raw foods were suspected as an initial source. The outbreak was propogated by person-to-person transmission.
