Illness was epidemiologically linked to the consumption of sugar snap peas. Shigella sonnei had been isolated from a consumer package of the sugar snap peas. The vegetable appeared to have originated from Kenya. Sugar snap peas were implicated in concurrent outbreaks in Denmark and Finland.
