Stroupe Farm in Howard County Raw Dairy Products 2012
On April 5, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services announced that they were investigating an increase in cases of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli(STEC), E. coli O157:H7, in Central Missouri that had begun in late March. A two year old child and a seventeen month old child developed hemolytic uremic syndrome. No vehicle was known at the time of the initial announcement. By April 9, the state named raw dairy products as a common factor in some, but not all, of the cases. On April 26, it was announced that the Stroupe Farm in Howard County, Missouri, was the possible source of the outbreak. Cases were from Boone, Camden,Cooper, Jackson, and Howard counties.
